Our best wishes and congratulations to Allen and Severine (Moorlands Fencing Club) on the arrival of Sebastian Yves on October 30th. Parents and baby are all doing well and we look forward to the little one’s first fencing lesson . . . though we may give him a couple of weeks before we start.

Thank you to all the fencers who turned out today to support our fencing demonstration at Fenton Manor to help launch Stoke on Trent’s Energise + programme.

We were asked to put on a day which consisted of a ‘drop in and try’ session alongside a fencing competition for more advanced fencers. Everyone helped out willingly, both in welcoming beginners to the sport and fencing with great enthusiasm in the competitions. Many fencers competed both in foil and epee and everyone seemed to have a good time. Special congratulations to Mike Finney who won both the Men’s Foil and Men’s Epee, and Imogen Peacock who won the Women’s Foil. Mike and Imogen were each awarded a year’s Gold Membership of Shapes Health and Leisure Club for their achievements.

Prizes were kindly handed out by the Lord Mayor who also spent some time chatting to our fencers and has promised to come along one day to give it a go himself.
Thanks again to all of you for giving up your Sunday to support us. It was much appreciated.

Congratulations to Lauren Prince and William Tall-Gallimore who today qualified to fence in the British Youth Championships 2009. They have both been working very hard for this and we look forward to seeing how they do at the Championships. Well done to both.
